The perfect team — a working collaboration of past and present generations.

Kerry Dorey
A native of the south shore of Nova Scotia, Kerry grew up surrounded by carpentry, home building, and music. As the son and grandson of custom home builders, his early interest in design lead him to Dalhousie University where he pursued studies in architecture as well as the performing arts. It was the later of the two that lead him to Toronto and then on to New York City to study acting and voice. The ensuing years were filled with artistic pursuits and successes in many disciplines.
With respect and homage to his grandfather who founded EW Dorey & Sons in 1959, Kerry founded EW Dorey Restoration + Design Inc., and now commits his time exclusively to his role as contractor and creative collaborator on renovation and building projects centered in the downtown Toronto core. Having had the unique privilege of working with a great number of talented and creative souls over the years, Kerry believes that the collaborative process takes centre stage. It is with this intention that Kerry works with his clients to provide a finished product driven by precision and detail.
“My grandfather always said that there was no point in doing something unless it was done right. I named my business after my grandfather because I believed him. My mission is to offer integrity and quality, and do the best work I can do. I cultivate an open, trusting and realistic dialogue with each client. We then work together to achieve our design and construction goals. The end result: happy clients. It runs in the family.”

Elmer William Dorey was my grandfather. In 1959, he and my father started their Nova Scotia business, E. W. Dorey & Sons Construction. I worked with them as a boy and deeply admired my tireless 60-year-old grandfather. He was a vital man who could put in a full day without a break, and still have the energy to be active in every part of community life. Their business thrived until my dad retired in 2007.
After my grandfather retired, he still spoke with pride of all the houses he’d built. He said he could drive around Lunenburg County and see those homes and know that, in each one, he’d done his best work.
The end result: happy clients. No one had issue with his integrity or doubted the quality of his workmanship, because he really did give each client his very best.
